Heavy Metal Animals

When I took my bottles and cans to the household waste recycling center last week, I discovered a cache of metal animal sculptures. They are probably slated for destruction, so I wanted to get some pictures. The "fur" of the dog on the bottom left is made from chains, and the body of the one on the upper right is made from metal mesh. If I had a place to put it, I would totally make an offer on the dragon/dinosaur. As for the rest of the pieces, I am not sure what a couple of them are, but I am sure they are heavy. Talk about your up-cycled artwork....
(edit: as of January 2012, many of these pieces remain mostly intact at the recycling facility.  These pieces are from the Annual Junque Yard Sculpture Contest. Please see my post Heavy Metal Animals III to learn more about them.)

Airships evoke thoughts of simpler times that were or could have been. What a wondrous experience it must have been for those first travelers lucky enough to glide quietly through the clouds and peer down on the world below! Here are a few finds that feature these flyers.

They're Creepy and They're Kooky, Mysterious and ... Educational!

I am sure many of you have seen biological prints before, but these struck me as especially amazing.

They are from the now public-domain ERNST HAECKEL: ART FORMS IN NATURE collection.
I plan on using at least some of them for decorating my very bare walls!  The highest quality images I found were on WikiMedia, in case you would like to do the same.   I suppose that these are not steampunk in and of themselves, but they do seem to lend a (mad?) scientific air to any place they are displayed.   And I think they are cool. =)

You can find a collection of them and a biography of Haeckel here:

Enjoy!

A Tuppence For Your Thoughts...

Blank Journals
Clockwise, from upper left to lower left:

It is human nature to pen our thoughts and dreams. In this day and age, journals made from anything but ones and zeroes are considered archaic; the art of bookmaking seems to be dying with that thought. Here are a few interesting finds of steampunk (or just plain dark!) blank books for jotting down secrets we don't want to put on the internet.

The Seeker -- Robot Figure from Etsy

Here is a cool find from Etsy. This one is made by buildersstudio. Isn't he adorable?
I intend to post many more Steampunk finds, as well. Stay tuned!

Steampunk Star Wars Figures

This was just too cute, I had to share. They are from a site called sillof.com , which has many more steampunkish figures from different movie genres.

Stumbling around in StumbleUpon

Upon hearing about it from an Etsy SteamTeam member, I started using StumbleUpon this week to see what it is all about. It seems to be a good way to kill time. LOTS of time. lol I "stumbled" a couple of pages related to my jewelry, including this one; so far only a few people have ventured to look at what I reviewed, but it is an interesting networking site.

You can find my "stumbles"/favorites at:

http://dreamsteam.stumbleupon.com/

if you would like to see them, or give me a thumbs-up to assist in my plot for world domination ... errr... plot to sell my jewelry. I get them confused sometimes.

DeviantArt Page

Though anyone who is interested in my work can now see most of my pieces on Etsy or ArtFire, I thought I would mention my DeviantArt page as well.

DeviantArt is an amazing site where people can post their works for public viewing. Whether they are art or not is up to the beholder, but there I have seen some really astonishing and possibly unique creations.

Transitioning Pieces to ArtFire

I have decided to give ArtFire a try. They offer a much better deal to sellers like myself; you can't get much better than absolutely free!

DreamSteam on ArtFire should take you there. As items on Etsy expire, I will be posting some of them over there. For free. Forever! Only 12 items are allowed on the free account, but it is sure worth a shot!

And ... *waves to the one follower of this blog* Hello! =) Thank you for following me!
